Geography of Netherlands |
Netherlands is one of the most beautiful places on earth and it is situated on the western side of the European continent. Geography of Netherlands has few distinct features; the land form of the country can be referred as a low lying area. The low lands of Netherlands are the major geographical features; it has been examined by the geologists that hardly the land surface of the country is one meter above than the sea-level. Further the scientists have also revealed that most of the lands which belong to the country are under the sea. Now a question may crop that Netherlands must be a flood prone area because of the low land surfaces. The answer is simply a 'no'; the several dikes and underwater mountains save Netherlands from getting flooded. So it can be rightly said that the natural elements have saved Netherlands from being under water. |

The Government of Netherlands has come out with different innovative ideas to counter floods.; one of such innovation was the Delta Project that was completed in the year 2002. The rivers in Netherlands have also played important roles. An in-depth study can reveal the fact that the cultural facets of Netherlands have been determined on the essence of three rivers. These three rivers are the Meuse, Rhine, and Waal.
This was all about the physical geography of Netherlands; equally the human geography of the country has immense significance. Netherlands' economy is one of the developed and the most acclaimed one across the globe. With the advent of globalization and liberalization since 1980s, Netherlands has also taken the same path and started limiting the government's authority on economic activities. This has made the country to attract other foreign investors to invest in it. Industries are the major center of focus and industries of food processing, natural gas and petroleum give the major thrust to earn more revenues. The country has maintained an equal balance between industries and agriculture; the agriculture in Netherlands is inclined to mechanize agriculture and thus increases the productivity. Therefore, all these basic feature make the geography of Netherlands a distinct one.
