The city of Groningen serves as the capital of the province of Groningen in Netherlands. Both the province and the city are located on the northern part of Netherlands. There are three principal areas for shopping in Groningen namely Grote Markt Vismarkt and A. Kerkhof market. Shopping in Groningen is limited by the day and time of shopping. For example in order to buy eatables, textiles, one has to visit the city either on Tuesday or on Thursday because only on Tuesdays and Thursdays the Grote Markt selling these products remain open from 0900 hours in the morning till 1700 hours in the evening. The market for flowers and plants A. Kerkhof market remain open every Wednesdays and Saturdays from 0900 hours till 1700 hours. The non food market Grote Markt remains open every Thursdays from 1300 hours till 2100 hours.

The Vismarkt and Grote Markt offers daily shopping in Groningen where one can buy a wide range of products from food and non food items. These markets remain open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 1200 hours till 2100 hours. The only exception is Thursday when these markets remain open from 0800 hours till 1700 hours. The city of Groningen also houses a departmental store located on the Grote Markt called Vroom en Dreesman. The store has earned reputation for being the most popular Dutch departmental store in Netherlands
One important item of shopping in Groningen is a shopping bag that is available in various styles and sizes to put the shopping items in the bag. There is a supermarket at Groningen in the Vissmarkt area called AH market that sells all types of food items. The prices of products at supermarket is a bit higher than the average. Apart from these all the three markets of Groningen offer antique shop, toyshop, book store and many more.
